We all know when it comes to a braai or a potjie, men know what they’re doing in the kitchen, but why not spice it up with these dishes.

Weekends are the best when coupled with a braai, especially on a Friday. So why not keep the momentum going with a few new recipes to try out during the week.

Celebrated annually on the first Thursday of November, Men Make Dinner Day is an attempt to spread the message that men can cook and can take on the responsibilities that were previously thought to be women’s tasks. But any day’s a good day for a man to help better balance household tasks.

Women, give your partner a chance to shine in the kitchen, too.

Why not try these simple recipes?

  • Sweetcorn bread: The bread is often served as a side dish, with a golden-brown crust that covers the moist and slightly crumbly interior. It is simple, with just ten ingredients, and takes an hour to make.
  • Vetkoek and mince: A yummy meal for those days when you aren’t in the mood to make a lot of food, to make a vetkoek you will need six ingredients easily found in the pantry and the mince is easily made with just a few spices and a little bit of water.
  • Chicken curry, you can never go wrong with chicken or a curry, this is a foolproof recipe made with all the spices you enjoy paired with rice or if you are feeling daring, roti. You can also adjust it to your spicy levels, so you can accommodate the whole family.

We know the best chef in the house is the woman, but give adventure a chance and try making the dish she makes that you enjoy the most, who knows, you might make it better than she does.
