After winning the toss and electing to bat, Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis led from the front with a superb 61 from just 38 balls, passing 11,000 T20 career runs in the process – the most by any South African batter. Devon Conway (35 off 31 balls) played the supporting role in the 97-run first-wicket partnership, but a middle-order collapse saw the Super Kings lose four wickets for just nine runs.

Jonny Bairstow righted the JSK somewhat with 43 not out off 27 balls to get the Super Kings to 172/5. Part-time off-spinner Reeza Hendricks bowled superbly, taking two wickets for 11 runs in two overs.

But, MI Cape Town had a secret weapon in Ryan Rickelton. Rickelton hit a match-winning 89 in 39 balls in a perfect start for the hosts. His 70-run opening stand with Rassie van der Dussen (39 off 24 balls) in just 6.4 overs laid a strong foundation for the team. After Van der Dussen’s run out, Rickleton and Hendricks continued the carnage with a 92-run partnership off only 49 balls. Hendricks finished unbeaten at 34, and the bonus point was achieved with one ball remaining.

For his brilliant innings and two stumpings, Ryan Rickelton was chosen as the Player of the Match.

MI Cape Town is top of the table

After yesterday’s matches, MI Cape Town is top of the table with 14 points, followed by Paarl Royals with 12 points. Joburg Super Kings is third with 10 points, followed by Pretoria Capitals with 9 points. Durban Super Giants are fifth with 6 points, with Sunrisers Eastern Cape bottom of the log with 5 points.

In today’s SA20 action, Sunrisers Eastern Cape will have the opportunity to leapfrog the Super Giants, which they will host in Gqeberha.
