Triegaardt thrilled with signing of versatile all-rounder Haasbroek─── MORGAN PIEK 08:46 Thu, 24 Apr 2025

The Knights coach JP Triegaardt is over the moon following the signing of the versatile all-rounder Ruan Haasbroek from the Northern Cape Heat.
This exciting addition comes shortly after the departure of another all-rounder, Dian Forrester, who has opted to spread his wings and join the North West Dragons. While Forrester’s absence will certainly be felt in the Free State set-up, the move is seen as a necessary step in his promising career.
Haasbroek brings more experience to the squad compared to Forrester and offers a different skillset – he bowls off-spin, unlike Forrester, who is a seamer. In addition to his batting abilities, he’s also no slouch behind the stumps with the gloves, making him a true all-rounder.
Triegaardt told OFM Sport that Forrester’s move was the right decision for the young cricketer, and the team wishes him well in Potchefstroom.
“I think Haasbroek’s record speaks for itself. Losing Dian to a first-division team like North West left a big gap in our batting line-up, and we had to do some serious soul-searching to find the right replacement,” Triegaardt said.
“That’s the nature of the game. Where Dian’s headed is clearly a cricketing decision aimed at furthering his career. As coaches, our role is to plant seeds in players and help them grow – but ultimately, it’s up to them to keep watering those seeds and move forward. We wish him all the best.”

Triegaardt believes Haasbroek fits the mould of the player they were looking for and has full confidence in his ability to step into the role.
“That’s exactly why we approached Haasbroek. He’s shown his talent across the board – at Limpopo, the Lions, and Northern Cape. He’s got grit, character, and he never backs down. He’s also an experienced guy who’s been around the block. We’re all very excited and incredibly grateful that he’s joined us, especially knowing how many franchises were interested in him. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Triegaardt added that Haasbroek’s wide-ranging skillset will be a huge asset to the team as they work towards reclaiming their former glory at the Mangaung Oval.

“From a skills perspective, he keeps wicket, bowls off-spin, has a powerful batting game, and can handle the longer formats too. So we’re really chuffed to have someone with such a well-rounded game who can deliver when it counts.
“It’s an exciting time for everyone involved – for us as a team and for him as a player. We’re all optimistic about what the new season holds.”
During the 2023/24 season, Haasbroek captained the Impalas to the Division 2 T20 Cup title – a testament to his leadership and talent.
