The Proteas fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada, broke a world record on Monday on day one of the 1st Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

The 29-year-old Rabada became the sixth South Africa bowler to reach the milestone of 300 Test wickets. He broke the world record for achieving the feat in the least number of balls bowled.

Rabada bowled Mushfiqur Rahim out for 11 runs to claim his 300th wicket and he took just 11 817 balls to reach the milestone in his 65th Test. Allan Donald and Dale Steyn reached the milestone in fewer Tests, but they bowled many more balls. Donald, who turned 58 on Sunday, took his 300th wicket in 63 Tests and 13 762 balls, while Steyn needed 61 Tests and 12 605 balls.

The previous world record for the least number of balls to 300 wickets was held by the Pakistan and King of Yorkers, Waqar Younis, who did it in 12 602 balls.

Rabada took 3/26 in 11 overs on Monday as the Tigers were bowled out for just 106 runs in 40.1 overs in their first innings. Rabada’s best figures in an inning still stand at 7/119 while in a Test it’s 13/144. Rababa is the latest South African to reach the special milestone after Donald, Steyn, Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, and Morné Morkel.

The allrounder, and Rabada’s Lions teammate Wiaan Mulder, set the tone with a fiery display of pace bowling and he took 3/22 in eight overs, while the spinner, Keshav Maharaj, played his part as well with 3/34 in 16.1 overs. Dane Piedt of the Knights took 1/19 in five overs.
