“Then from then on it was pretty good to bat and very wet the second half, which was very difficult for the spinners to grip the ball, but that said, yeah, we didn’t get enough runs and we didn’t bowl well enough to be fair to make a game of it.”

The West Indies claimed a 3-0 series whitewash against the Proteas in Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday, and they claimed a third consecutive series victory against South Africa.

On Tuesday night, the Windies beat South Africa by 8 wickets according to the DLS Method in the third and final T20 International at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba.

South Africa scored 108/4 in their allotted 13 overs with Triston Stubbs top-scoring with 40 runs. Romario Shepherd was the pick of the Windies bowlers with 2/14 in his two overs.

In reply, Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 42 and Nicholas Pooran scored 35 runs as the Windies chased down the target in 9.2 overs. It was a tough game for the South African bowlers with Bjorn Fortuin being the pick of the bowlers with 1/8 in his one over.

The Proteas coach, Rob Walter, said they simply were not up to scratch in the series. “It was a tough game and a tough series for us, but the West Indies played really well,” said Walter.

“The conditions were really tough today we saw the ball turn a lot in their first four overs and the first over after the rain delay. Then from then on it was pretty good to bat and very wet the second half, which was very difficult for the spinners to grip the ball, but that said, yeah, we didn’t get enough runs and we didn’t bowl well enough to be fair to make a game of it.

“So all-in-all we were put under pressure over the three games and we weren't up to the mark.”

The Proteas next assignment is the tour to Bangladesh, but it remains to be seen if it will go ahead.
