Rubin Hermann - Dragons

“Rubin has just been an absolute revolution since moving to the top of the order. He started at four and struggled a little bit after the first two games, and then got his chance at the top and never looked back.”

The North West Dragons climbed to fifth on the CSA T20 Challenge table with a convincing win against the Paarl Rocks in Potchefstroom on Thursday.

The Dragons claimed their second win of the campaign and remain in the hunt for the semi-finals following a seven-wicket win.

The Rock had a bat first at the JB Marks Oval and were restricted to 146/6 in their 20 overs thanks to a career-best 4/14 in 4 overs by Migael Pretorius.

Two more former Knights, Ferisco Adams, was the top-scorer for the team from Paarl with 50 not out, while the leg-spinner, Shaun von Berg, scored 25-runs.

In reply, the in-form opening batter and wicketkeeper, Rubin Hermann, scored an outstanding 96 not out as the Dragons chased down the target in 16.5 overs. Hermann struck nine fours and five sixes in his innings of 56 balls.

Hermann's knock sees him as the leading run-scorer in the competition with 317-runs in six innings at an average of 63.40.

Wihan Lubbe in turn scored 23-runs. Imran Manack, was the pick of the Rocks bowlers with 2/17 in his 4-overs, while Hardus Viljoen took 1/23 in 3-overs.

The Dragons captain, Senuran Muthusamy, told OFM Sport that Hermann has been a revolution at the top of the order and they are glad to be getting some momentum in the competition.

“Rubin has just been an absolute revolution since moving to the top of the order,” said Muthusamy.

“He started at four and struggled a little bit after the first two games, and then got his chance at the top and never looked back.

“I think he has made some real waves - he has just stood out and been really special so far in the competition. So, long may that continue.

“I'm really happy and proud of the boys and glad that we are running with a bit of momentum now. Hopefully we can just continue improving and just focus on excellence.”

In Thursday’s other game, the Warriors, remained at the top of the log following an eight-wicket win against Western Province in Gqeberha.

The Warriors and Dragons will lock-horns on Sunday at St George’s Park. This match in the Friendly City is scheduled to get underway at 14:00.
