The Northern Cape Heat got their Division 2 T20 Challenge campaign off to a winning start by beating the Garden Route Badgers by 4 wickets in Kimberley.
The Badgers had a bat first at the Diamond Oval and scored 163/6 in their allotted 20 overs with Jhedli van Briesies scoring 52, while Kelly Smuts scored 26.
Johan van Dyk took 2/24 in his 4 overs as the pick of the Heat bowlers.
In reply, Ernest Kemm scored 40-runs and Grant Thomson scored 37 as the Heat reached the target with just one ball to spare.
Marcello Piedt took 2/26 in 3.5 overs as the best bowler for the Badgers.
In Wednesday’s other games - The Limpopo Impalas beat the Eastern Cape Iinyathi by 7-runs in Polokwane, while the Mpumalanga Rhinos beat the Eastern Storm by 22-runs in White River.
On Saturday the ITEC Knights will face the Badgers at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, while on Sunday the Limpopo Impalas will take on the Heat in Polokwane.
