Cricket to take center stage in 4th test | News Article

The sawdust following the Sandpaper Gate saga may not totally have settled yet but the cricket will take center stage when the 4th and final test between South Africa and Australia gets underway in Johannesburg on Friday.

While the Baggy Greens may still be experiencing some turbulent times on the back of the ball tampering incident that rocked the cricketing world during the 3rd test in Cape Town, the Proteas have remained focused on the final showdown.

The Proteas are on the verge of beating Australia in this series for the first time ever on South African soil as they currently hold a 2-1 series lead after back to back test victories in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

The South Africans are favorites to win the series as they face a weakened Aussie team who is missing the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft due to suspension for their roll in the ball tampering incident.

Matthew Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns have been flown in from Down Under to replace the disgraced trio of Smith, Warner and Bancroft.

In the Protea camp on the other hand, coach Ottis Gibson is of the opinion that every test is evaluated on its unique challenges which is why the coach hinted at a few changes.

"In a 3 man (bowling) attack its nice to freshen at least 1 bowler up, we rested Morne (Morkel) in PE and he came back in Cape Town and bowled really well."

"Wiaan Mulder is improving all the time and he will definitely come into reckoning in Jo'burg, we could need an all rounder and a 4th bowling option," Gibson added.

Should Mulder get the nod from the head coach he will make his Test debut at his home ground.

The 4th and final test against Australia will get underway at 10:00 on Friday morning.
