The VKB Knights have gotten their 2017 Ram Slam T20 Challenge campaign off to a strong start as they claimed an 8-wicket victory over the Warriors in Port Elizabeth.
Having been asked to bat first by the Knights, the Warriors went about their batting business to set the visitors a 154-run total at St Georges Park, restricted largely by Knights all-rounder Shadley van Schalkwyk who picked up 3 wickets for only 25 runs.
With bat in hand, the Knights were in early trouble on 15 for the loss of 2 wickets but thanks to a record third-wicket partnership of 142 by Theunis de Bruyn who contributed 78 unbeaten runs and David Miller with 62 not out, Nicky Boje's men coasted to victory with 12 balls to spare.
Some 1 100 kilometers north-west of Port Elizabeth in Centurion, the Cape Cobra's suffered a 15-run Duckworth Lewis system defeat in a rain-affected tie against the Dolphins.
While in game 2 of that SuperSport Park double-header, followed a similar fate as defending T20 Challenge champions the Titans when they claimed an 8-wicket Duckworth Lewis system win over the Highveld Lions.
The Knights continue their campaign on Wednesday when they welcome the Titans to the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
