“The suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.”

Two months after the murder of Jayson Afrique and the attempted murder of his wife, a suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.

A man (38) was arrested on Friday (20/9) at a petrol station in the city. A video doing the rounds on social media shows the suspect being arrested.

The fatal shooting occurred at the couple’s home on Wednesday, 31 July when they were approached by an unknown man who fired several shots at them in their Toyota Hilux Bakkie, fatally wounding Afrique.

“The Northern Cape organised crime investigations unit, with the assistance of the Kimberley Flying Squad, arrested a 38-year-old male suspect on Friday in connection with the murder and attempted murder of Jayson Afrique and his wife,” said Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergio Kock.

“The suspect will appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon. The investigation continues.”

Friends of the deceased Afrique have launched a petition for people to oppose bail for the arrested suspect. The signing is scheduled to take place at the CC Riders Clubhouse on Sunday (22/9).

The funeral service for Afrique was held for the public on Tuesday, 6 August at the City of Hope Church, followed by a private cremation ceremony for the close family. The CC Riders Kimberley community in collaboration with members of the stance community within Kimberley held a send-off service for the Kimberley businessman.

The CC Riders organised a “Justice for Jayson Awareness Ride” on Saturday, 24 August, and invited everyone – with two wheels, four wheels, or even on foot – to join.

“The purpose of this ride is to bring awareness to Jayson’s case and to show support to the authorities who are investigating his killing tirelessly. We want those responsible to be apprehended and brought to justice,” said Mike Muller, a member of the Kimberley CC Riders.
