“This is a massive opportunity for the province – already several projects from the province are making waves internationally.”

For the first time, the Northern Cape will participate in the Durban FilmMart (DFM), where filmmakers, directors, producers and students from all over the country get together annually to share knowledge and expertise.

The FilmMart in Durban facilitates local and international trade and investment in African film content and generates market access for African film industry professionals and content to the international markets.

“The Durban FilmMart is an amazing opportunity to network with the industry, expose our unique stories to an expanded industry ecosystem as well as develop partnerships necessary for the development of the sustainable audio-visual sector in the Northern Cape province,” added the lead for Northern Cape Film Week, Motheo Seleke.

“This is a massive opportunity for the province – already several projects from the province are making waves internationally.”

This year’s programme includes various round table talks with influential speakers in the film industry, the talks surround various topics such as creating safer spaces, and development labs on the continent.

The teams will also be able to participate in various masterclasses offered that include “how to market your project and animation for all”.

The Northern Cape has six individuals who’ve travelled to Durban for the FilmMart which includes a producer/director, film festival and market organiser, as well as two film students from the province.

The event spans over three days, starting Friday (19/7) and ending Monday (22/7).

“For those attending, we warmly invite you to join us for a cup of coffee or to set up a meeting. This is a prime opportunity to connect, share insights, and explore potential partnerships aimed at bolstering the audio-visual sector in our beloved Northern Cape.”
