Former Mangaung Municipal Manager back at the helm─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:59 Thu, 19 Oct 2023
“More brings a wealth of experience. We are striving toward pushing the metro to its former glory.”
The former Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipal Manager Sello More has been brought back to the helm of the metro's operations as its MM. The surprise return of More, who was voted out during a motion of no confidence in the council in 2021, was announced on Thursday (19/10).
The newly elected Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi announced his comeback on Thursday during the announcement of new members of the Mayoral Committee. Nthatisi said More brings a wealth of experience. He said they are striving toward pushing the Metro to its former glory.
In 2021, a Free State High Court Judge ruled against More following an application by the Metro to rescind its own Metro Cop establishment.
The metro's application to the court came hot on the heels of a letter from the National Treasury about the establishment of the metro division. The Treasury Department sent a letter to More, among others, and warned about the establishment of the metro police unit.
In the letter, Treasury’s Malijeng Ngqaleni said the metro police unit cannot be a priority, given the municipality's financial and service delivery performance.
Meanwhile, during the briefing in Bloemfontein, Nthatisi also announced that interviews to appoint heads of the various departments were underway. The interviews were handled by Deputy Mayor Lulama Titi.
