Miss SA reaches over 1 million viewers─── TSHEHLA KOTELI 09:30 Mon, 18 Sep 2023
Natasha Joubert has said in numerous interviews she won't be participating in international pageants, as she wants to focus on enjoying her time as the titleholder.
S3, previously known as SABC 3, reached over a million viewers with the Miss South Africa pageant.
It was the first time the channel saw numbers of over a million since 2021, with the Qatar 2022 Bafana Bafana vs Ghana qualifier match reached 1.03 million viewers. Entertainment reporter, Phil Mphela, said the Miss SA final started with 641 000 viewers at 18:30, and by 21:00, it clocked 1.08 million viewers. “This is double what S3’s top-rated programmes currently pull.”

The pageant was hosted by Media personality, Bonang Matheba. Natasha Joubert, representing Gauteng, took the crown as Miss SA 2023, being Ndavi Nokeri from Limpopo’s successor. She, however, will not be able to represent the country at this year’s Miss Universe. Joubert represented the country at Miss Universe in 2021, unlike the Miss SA pageant which allows contests to re-enter, this is not allowed at Miss Universe.

Joubert is Miss SA 2020 runner-up – who has made it known in different interviews that she will not be participating in international pageants, as she wants to focus on enjoying her time as the titleholder. This means she also won’t be participating in the Miss World pageant. She can also participate in the Miss Supranational Pageant, however, she said she will support whoever the Miss SA organisation chooses to send in her place.
The judging panel included reigning Miss Universe, R’Bonney Nola Gabriel, actress Leandie du Randt, actress Thuso Mbedu, investigative television journalist Devi Sankaree Govender and model Jo-Ann Strauss. Strauss has represented the country at the Miss Universe pageant in 2001, and also at the Miss World pageant.
