The fire at the Cabanas in North West was brought under control within an hour with the help of kitchen staff and Sun City's fire and rescue services.

The staff and guests at Sun City's resort hotel in Rustenburg, North West, survived a massive fire scare Saturday afternoon (16/9).

A video showing the fire was doing rounds on social media platforms. It's understood the fire broke out in the resort's kitchen at about 14:30 on Saturday. The fire has since been extinguished successfully. It was brought under control within an hour with the help of kitchen staff and Sun City's fire and rescue services.


The cause of the fire is unknown and Sun City confirmed that investigations are currently underway. No injuries were reported and guest accomodation remains unaffected. A similar incident took place at the Pilanesburg Airport a week ago.

It's understood, during the fire outbreak, Zimbabwean-born princess Charlene Monaco, accompanied by Prince Albert, visited the resort to launch Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation in South Africa's (PCMFSA) Water Bike Challenge at Sun City on Saturday.
