Car smuggling kingpin arrested─── 10:27 Sat, 05 Aug 2023
Police have arrested a man (55) believed to be the kingpin of a syndicate smuggling stolen vehicles across the border.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court today (4/9). The man was arrested in an operation led by the Limpopo Hawks serious organised crime investigation unit.
The crime-busting operation, dubbed Vennice, was set in motion when police started intercepting a large number of stolen vehicles, particularly 4x4s and SUVs, before they could be smuggled across the Limpopo River into Zimbabwe.
The alleged kingpin was identified and arrested in Kempton Park, Gauteng after intensive investigations by various police units. The police expect more arrests to come soon.
