Centlec concerned over rise of theft, vandalism of infrastructure─── ZENANDE MPAME 08:38 Fri, 14 Jul 2023
The recent wave of theft and vandalism of priceless infrastructure has reached dangerous proportions.
It is endangering lives and vital services in the Centlec region of operation, which worries Centlec.
The anticipated cost of the theft-related damage is R1.2 million.
These funds could have been utilised to improve and maintain the network, ensuring a steady power supply for the Mangaung community.
“We appeal to the community in the surrounding areas to assist the police in identifying the perpetrators of this crime,” said Centlec spokesperson, Lele Mamatu.
Recently there have been cases of theft in Thaba Nchu, at the De Wet Distribution Centre, in Bloemfontein, and in Botshabelo Section N.
The general public is reminded that tampering, stealing power, and damaging priceless infrastructure are all serious crimes in South Africa that carry heavy punishments for anyone proven guilty.
“We would like to thank the public, including community forums such as the neighbourhood watch and the community policing forum for the work well done and for giving us tip-offs whenever these kinds of incidents are to happen,” said Mamatu.
