The EFF in the North West has slammed the provincial government for what it terms the irregular appointment of 100 employees.

A provincial spokesperson for the party, Fanone Moema, said the employment of 100 graduates across different municipalities in the province was done following the stipulated recruitment process.

"It came as no surprise that the NWU and the provincial government are staunch allies.”

He said the appointments in question were conducted by the acting Premier Nono Maloyi, together with the North West University. Moena says the collaboration between the government and the university was supposed to eradicate unemployment but instead, the process excluded college students and others from the province.

"The university, in response to our inquiry, revealed that there was no clear recruitment process and the premier corroborated the same. Even worse, the recruitments were done without a developed advertisement, job description, salary structure, and functions of the municipality in the process."

Moema also slammed the university and said: "It came as no surprise that the NWU and the provincial government are staunch allies and had also teamed up in creating a climate in which better life in the province is exclusively enjoyed by the families, friends and close to the political associates of the premier, MECs, councillors, and university management."

He says the NWU's Indigenous Knowledge System recruited 100 unemployed graduates in February 2023 and to date the university is unable to pay for all the months they have worked without any future date being designated for payment.

"We are committed to initiatives that seek to create sustainable jobs and eradicate poverty. As such we will ensure that there is accountability, openness, and fairness and those implicated do not enjoy impunity," Moema says.

“The NWU pledged approximately 700 graduates from diverse disciplines to support municipalities.”

In June Maloyi said several municipalities in the North West are currently facing challenges that affect their service delivery to communities. He said as an initial step, the deployment of these graduates will form part of the incremental implementation of this collaborative effort to assist municipalities around the province.

“COGTA chose the NWU as a strategic social partner, and as part of the university’s commitment, the NWU pledged approximately 700 graduates from diverse disciplines to support municipalities, helping in various business functions while gaining valuable professional experience,” Maloyi said.
