An off-duty police officer from the Free State arrested five suspects after reacting to information received about goods stolen from a truck at the N1 stop in Ventersburg.

It's understood that the police officer who was off duty, requested assistance from his colleagues and operationalised the information he received on Wednesday. Provincial police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli revealed that a 42-year-old suspect was arrested in Mmamahabane and a stolen laptop was found.

On the way to the police station, a 27-year-old male suspect – who was seen walking on the side of the road – was identified as the person who sold two laptops to the first suspect. He was also arrested. Kareli added that investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects aged 28, 28 and 38 respectively. They allegedly also took part in the theft out of the vehicle.

The police recovered a chainsaw, glass cutters and a printer, allegedly stolen from the trucks. The property, estimated to be worth R30 000, was recovered during the investigation.

Five (5) suspects aged between 27 and 42 were arrested for, what is classified as theft out of a motor vehicle, and possession of suspected stolen goods. They are expected to appear in the Ventersburg Magistrate's Court soon.
