Maape's spokesperson, Sello Tatai, said following a successful orthopaedic procedure, Premier Maape has been advised by doctors to take time off for his recuperation.

Tatai said as a result, Premier Maape has appointed Maloyi, who is also Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC and ANC Provincial Executive Committee chairperson, to act on his behalf.

Tatai said this is in line with Chapter 6, Section 131(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic.

Premier Maape was admitted to Wilmed Park Private Hospital in Klerksdorp, where his surgery was done successfully.

OFM News previously reported that a political analyst from the North-West University, André Duvenhage, said following the election of Maloyi as ANC chairperson in 2022, it was inevitable that he would become the premier.

Duvenhage said he expected the North West government to get rid of the legacy of the former premier Supra Mahumapelo.
