The owner of a Bloemfontein guesthouse claims to have been assaulted by DJ and music producer Mobi Dixon while he was in the Free State for a performance.
He allegedly returned from his gig at a popular night spot in Westdene at 05:00 on Sunday 21 May, accompanied by three women and a man. The owner had told him guests weren’t allowed visitors in their rooms.
The owner, who has asked to remain anonymous, claimed when the receptionist asked Mobi Dixon upon arrival Saturday afternoon whether he intended to have visitors, he said no.
On Sunday morning, however, she was woken by a security guard, saying he had problems with a guest. She went to the common area to diffuse the situation.
When she got there, the musician and his friends were sitting in the common area, but as there was another man present, she couldn’t pinpoint Mobi Dixon. She kept on asking, “Who’s the guest here?”
He and his entourage allegedly ignored her, but she eventually got an answer from his visitors. She then told him that he knew the rules not to bring people into the guesthouse, especially because he had been asked whether he would have visitors.

“Unfortunately,” she told him, “as you were told, we can’t be doing this. Other people are sleeping. You’re making a noise, please, can your visitors leave?”
She claimed he said “under no terms” were they going anywhere. He asked whether she knew who he was, and ordered her to go back to bed and sleep next to her husband because she has no say.
After more words were exchanged, Mobi Dixon asked his company to leave. But he insisted that one of the women stay behind.
The owner said as the woman seemed uncomfortable she instructed her to also leave to try to avoid any further commotion.
“He became aggressive when I said she couldn’t stay and pulled on her arm and insisted that she stayed.”
The owner claimed she got in a scuffle over the female visitor. The DJ “put his arm around her neck, in a semi-loving motion but you could see there was aggression behind it. The lady’s eyes (grew larger) during the confrontation. She seemed scared.
“As he let go of her he slapped me in the face with the back of his hand and pushed me over, I went flying.”
The guesthouse owner claimed she suffered injuries to the back of her head, her elbow, and ribs. “I busted my elbow pretty badly … I suffered a slight concussion, my ribs were bruised and so was my back.”
The guesthouse owner said the guest decided to leave as the confrontation seemed to have escalated. The DJ allegedly continued to verbally assault and threaten her.
He started arguing with another guest and was escorted off the premises by the security guard. The owner said she packed his belongings while he was waiting outside on the pavement before he left in a taxi.
Free State police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, confirmed that the owner laid a charge of common assault at the Park Road Police Station. The case is still under investigation.
The owner alleged that one of the musician’s guests also laid a charge against him.
OFM sent an inquiry to Mobi Dixon, but he has not responded.
