Free State police are requesting the public's assistance in finding the family of an unidentified female body discovered at settlements near Protem in Sasolburg.
It’s alleged that police were busy patrolling the area when they noticed a woman sitting on the ground, leaning on a shack on 10 May 2023 at about 00:20. Free State communication Liason Josephine Rani, reveals that the woman was unresponsive and was declared dead on the scene by emergency services personnel.
She added that the deceased is estimated to be about 30 years old. She was wearing green pants, a pink jersey, black boots and a grey sleeveless pullover with a hood covering her face. Police further revealed that she had no identity document in her possession and no one in the area could identify her.
Rani has requested anyone who may know a person who matches the description given by the police or her family members to contact Sergeant Tshidi Makhonanyana on 082-301-3022.

Free State Health, MEC, Mathabo Leeto, recently revealed that unidentified bodies at the mortuary have to be kept for 30 days, and if not claimed, the department has to dispose of them by burying them as the government. This was during her visit to the family of the late 32-year-old Katlego Junior Bereng in Ipopeng, whose body was used as a decoy for Facebook rapist and murderer Thabo Bester's escape from the Mangaung maximum prison last year. Leeto said that her Department will have to work closely with the Department of Home Affairs and media in finding family members of unclaimed bodies at government mortuaries.
