“The municipality is working tirelessly to ensure the water quality is restored and ready for consumption by the residents in the affected areas. Our reservoir has accumulated sludge on the floor which affected the water.”

OFM News previously reported that these pictures and videos depict what seems to be brownish sludge coming out of residents' taps. It’s not yet clear how long the residents have been faced with these water issues.

Photos and videos shared on social media proved that the water in Refengkgotso is unsafe for human consumption.

The municipality added that the team is on-site, busy unblocking the reservist sludge disposal pipe in order to remove the sludge accumulated inside.

Thereafter the reservoir will be filled with water for distribution to the residents. “We are also waiting for the reservoir level to rise so that the residents can access clean water.”

The municipality apologised for the inconvenience caused.

OFM previously reported that a similar situation also besieged residents of the troubled Theunissen-based Masilonyana Local Municipality where residents had spent days without drinking water and were ultimately forced to fetch water from small water streams and pipes.
