Northern Cape addresses sexual reproductive health─── 11:25 Fri, 14 Apr 2023
The Deputy Minister of Health, Sibongiseni Dlhomo, is currently leading the sexual reproductive health campaign and march against illegal and unsafe abortions at the Sol Plaatje University's South Campus in Kimberley.
According to the provincial spokesperson of Health, Lebogang Majaha, this event is an annual campaign aimed at addressing various health challenges experienced by adolescent girls and young women and their male counterparts. It addresses access to sexual reproduction health services – including family planning services at health facilities across the country – to enable the government to make interventions accordingly.
Dlhomo is joined by the Northern Cape MEC for Health, Maruping Lekwene, World Health Organisation Country Director, Dr Owen Kaluwa, the Chief Executive Officer of Higher Health South Africa, and local government leaders from the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
The day started with a march to raise awareness about the dangers of illegal and unsafe abortions, followed by physical activities to promote a healthy lifestyle to prevent and manage non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several cancers.
