Health MEC pays suprise visit to Free State hospital─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 07:24 Mon, 20 Mar 2023
The Free State MEC for Health, Mathabo Leeto, has promised to address challenges that are hindering service delivery at health facilities.
Accompanied by the Health HOD, Godfrey Mahlatsi, Leeto conducted an unannounced visit to the Bongani Hospital in Welkom on Sunday, 19 March 2023. According to the provincial spokesperson for the Department of Health, Mondli Mvambi, Leeto's visit forms part of the critical first steps the new MEC has embarked on to familiarise herself with the landscape of healthcare service delivery in a direct manner.
"Bongani Hospital has been in the news for allegations of the mistreatment of patients to a point where others dubbed it the 'hospital of no return'. She said she has taken note of grievances like the need for adequate staffing, uniforms, and infrastructure challenges. She said she will be doing these unannounced visits to other health facilities across the province to make sure they adhere to the standards of an ideal hospital and become ready for the National Health Insurance initiative," says Mambi.
