Motorists travelling between Boshof and Dealesville on the R64 in the Free State, are warned of current road works.

A Boshof resident Benny Erasmus, who is also part of the team filling the potholes, said motorists are speeding on the road and it is getting dangerous for them to complete their work. He and the people working on the road are from a private company.

The road connects Kimberley with Bloemfontein via Boshof and Dealesville. He requested motorists to exercise caution when driving on the road, as the filling of the potholes might take some time.

Previously, the Free State Provincial Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, formerly known as Police, Roads and Transport, had temporarily closed bridge number 981 at Koffiefontein and the R48 access road for repairs. The departmental spokesperson, Hillary Mophethe, previously explained that the bridge and road will be closed between 16 and 17 January.

In another part of the province, a local entrepreneur from the streets of Botshabelo near Bloemfontein, took it upon himself to repair potholes in his neighbourhood, creating more jobs for the youth.

Maine Molibeli, the owner of Manchu Inn Cuisine, used his money for the project. He said through this initiative he aimed to improve the living conditions in the area while also making sure that he provides his clients with a friendly atmosphere. He could employ at least 25 young people by repairing the streets.

The service providers who spearheaded the projects of street paving, and repairing potholes and manholes, were Chief Tshipi Trading and Kgasiane Construction. “Over the years we had enjoyed good working relations with the local community and this project is coming at an opportune time as the festive season is drawing closer to the end,” said Molibeli.
