Further calls for dissolution of Mangaung Metro Council

Further calls for dissolution of Mangaung Metro Council | News Article

Calls to dissolve the troubled, Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Council have resurfaced.

This after the Free State ANC's Interim Provincial Committee's (IPC) recent meeting with the NEC to present a possible proposal for the change in the mayorship of the Mangaung Metro.

The spokesperson of ActionSA in the Free State, Nomawethu Sbukwana, says the sudden removal of Mxolisi Siyonzana as the Executive Mayor of the Mangaung Metro Municipality is a clear demonstration of inherent political strife and skirmishes within the ANC. She adds that despite changes of leadership in the metro and being placed under administration, residents continue to be frustrated by the lack of service delivery. Nomawethu says dissolving the council is the only way to deal with the current woes at the metro.

"The recycling of ANC deployees through their cadre of deployment strategies will never bring much-needed development to this municipality. Siyonzana and Lulama Titi, who is tipped to be the mayor, were both at the centre of this corruption and maladministration. They both don't have vision to take Mangaung seriously. The Mangaung Metro Council should be dissolved and go for municipal by-elections. The ANC lacks credible leaders with integrity and the party is incapable of self-correcting and is beyond fixing," adds Sbukwana.

The Secretary-General of the ANC, Fikile Mbalula, recently accused Siyonzana of sleeping on the job. He said this at the ANC Youth League Peter Mokaba Memorial Lecture held in the Free State on Saturday 7 January 2023.

Mbalula said the leadership of the ANC will be getting rid of MECs, ministers, mayors and other leaders who have not delivered on their mandate. Whilst the convenor of the ANC in the Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana, said that many municipalities in the province have collapsed due to people who are put in positions and do not understand their responsibility.
