ANC lines up possible replacements for Mangaung Mayor | News Article

The ANC in the Free State has lined up possible replacements for the Mangaung Metro's mayor, Mxolisi Siyonzana.

Free State ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) spokesperson, Oupa Khoabane, says after a series of engagements to assess the state of service delivery in the Mangaung Metro Municipality, in line with the proposal of the region for changes in the institution, IPC Officials will meet with the ANC NEC's officials to present a proposal for the change in mayorship of the Mangaung Metro. He adds that the proposal is motivated by their attempts to improve service delivery and provide the necessary political leadership that must lead cooperative governance of the institution.

“The IPC has decided to work on facilitating the appointment of the new mayor. The change result from the problems that have been experienced by the leadership of the institution. So, as a result, the IPC decided that there has to be a new mayor and that has to be decided as soon as possible,” says Khoabane.

Secretary-General of the ANC, Fikile Mbalula, recently accused Siyonzana of sleeping on the job. He said this at the ANC Youth League Peter Mokaba Memorial Lecture that was held in the Free State on Saturday 7 January 2023.

Mbalula said the leadership of the ANC will be getting rid of MECs, ministers, mayors and other leaders who have not delivered on their mandate. Whilst the convenor of the ANC in the Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana, said that many municipalities in the province have collapsed as a result of people who are put in positions and do not understand their responsibility.
