Deputy Minister to lead imbizo in Sasolburg | News Article

The Deputy Minister of Police will on Saturday 19 November 2022 engage with residents of the Free State through an imbizo held in Zamdela near Sasolburg.

Minister Cassel Mathale will be flanked by the national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, among others.

The gathering follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s imbizo held in Bloemfontein in Mangaung earlier this year. Residents had raised several issues of crime troubling their respective communities, while also highlighting the alleged involvement of police officials in crime.

Minister Bheki Cele also held an imbizo in Botshabelo in May this year.

The area of Zamdela has recently experienced a number of crime incidents which included business robbery, murder and hijacking.

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, “the imbizo will be held in a continuous effort to forge a strong partnership between the police, the residents and various community structures."

Makhele adds that community members will have an opportunity to address those responsible for their safety about their concerns, problems and challenges, and most importantly, share crime prevention messaging on how they may rid their communities of criminals and other social ills.

“Crime prevention is a societal matter. The Deputy Minister and the police management will also rope in political and traditional leaders among other organisations with a view of finding lasting solutions to crime and other social elements that are of concern to the communities,” Makhele further adds.
