Bloemfontein: Road section closed due to fire─── 15:58 Sun, 04 Sep 2022
Emergency services on Sunday closed a section of the N1 at Bloemfontein, the N1 North and South between the R30 and Raymond Mhlaba Street, due to safety concerns after a fire broke out.
"We have closed the N1 both North and Southbound for all vehicles until further notice. We have to ensure the safety of responders as well as road users," says Free State Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Sipho Towa.
All alternative access points onto N1 are also closed until further notice.
Authorities are on the scene and have requested drivers to reduce speed and avoid the area. Obstruction in traffic flow and delayed travel time can be expected.
Meanwhile, the Mangaung Fire Department is on scene and Working on Fire Bloemfontein team was activated, adds Johan Breytenbach from the Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association.
