The biggest taxi association Santaco has refused to join Wednesday's planned national shutdown across the country.

On its Twitter feed, the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) says despite numerous requests to participate in the National Shutdown, they will not participate in the planned shutdown. The biggest taxi association, which commutes over a million commuters across the country, says it doesn't believe that the shutdown would yield positive results.

Workers and residents in the Free State are set to meet at the Batho Location and will march to Premier Sisi Ntombela's offices in Bloemfontein to hand over a memorandum.

The planned national strike, led by Cosatu, is against high fuel prices, the energy crisis, escalating unemployment rate, and poverty.

A few leaders of the union have already started to gather at the Batho location, as their first meeting point. Workers are also expected to converge at the old Phuthaditjhaba Square outside Bloemfontein at around 09:00.
