Residents discovered the 29-year-old’s body at the Maranteng Dam in Newtown with his hands tied with a cable behind his back on Sunday morning (24/11). The victim had sustained severe head injuries.

The body is yet to be identified by possible family members or the community, and no arrests have yet been made, said Northern Cape police spokesperson Sgt. Molefi Shemane.

Residents took to social media to voice their concerns. “Every week there is a dead body being found in Postmasburg, there needs to be an intervention as soon as possible. This is out of control,” said Rabi Manamela.

Another Facebook user mentioned how safe the Newtown community used to be that walking around at midnight one still felt safe; now they don’t even feel safe when walking to the tuck shop.
