Northern Cape MEC troubled by continued #GBV cases─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:22 Thu, 18 Aug 2022
The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison in the Northern Cape has raised concerns over cases of gender-based violence (GBV) that continue to increase in the province.
MEC Nomandla Bloem expressed her profound sadness and utter disgust with the continued violent attacks against women.
Bloem’s statement follows recent incidents. An elderly woman was murdered on a farm near Olifantshoek in the John Taolo Gaetswe District and a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a medical practitioner in Kimberley.
Bloem sent her heartwarming condolences to the family of the deceased and commended the police for availing all resources to arrest the alleged perpetrator/s. She also wished the 17-year-old a speedy recovery following the horrific crime that has been committed against her.
Bloem further commended the teenager for informing her family and police about the incident.
She called on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to deny the alleged perpetrators bail. Bloem also requested community members to continue to report the crime and assured the victims that law enforcement agencies will do everything in their power to ensure that victims and their families get the justice they deserve.
