ANC intends to expel councillors as infighting intensifies─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:59 Wed, 10 Aug 2022
The speaker of the ailing Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State and seven other members of council have allegedly been served with letters from the ANC, with the intention to expel them.
The Disciplinary Committee of the ANC Interim Regional Committee (IRC) in the region allegedly intends to expel Stefanie Lockman-Naidoo and Patrick Monyakoane, amongst others. According to the ANC’s IRC spokesperson, Ncamisa Ngxangisa, they were served with these letters because they allegedly voted with opposition members and defied party orders in council. This is the second time the ANC announces action against Lockman-Naidoo and Monyakoane in a space of six months.

In January, the Mangaung ANC's IRC announced Lockman-Naidoo’s suspension after she allegedly defied the order of the party to not allow a sitting, which saw the former Acting City Manager (ACM), Sello More, removed from his office.

“There were allegations that there are people who are voting with opposition parties and other transgressions. We said these should be sent to our subcommittee that deals with disciplinary issues. So, for now the subcommittee is busy with its work. The nature of disciplinary proceedings is sub judice so we are still waiting for them and when they are finished doing their work they will report to us and it's only then that we will be able to give you a comment,” Ngxangisa said at the time.
OFM News previously reported that the cash-strapped metro, which has since been placed under administration in 2019 due to its failure to provide basic services to its residents, failed on two occasions to adopt the 2022/23 Budget Vote this year.
It has been alleged that some ANC councillors, who constitute the majority of the council with 51 members, did not vote for the budget as it failed on two occasions.
