Armed robbers held security guards hostage in Virginia─── 05:00 Wed, 15 Jun 2022
Police in Virginia in the Free State are on the lookout for 20 suspects who robbed Virginia's main sewerage plant.
It is alleged that 20 unknown men with Lesotho accents held three security officers at gunpoint, overpowered them and fired two shots before getting away with copper cables worth more than R2 million.
According to the police, the incident happened on Tuesday morning and a case of business robbery has been registered for further investigation.
Police spokesperson, Steven Thakeng, says the robbers are still on the run and police are appealing to anyone with information to please come forward and assist.
Thakeng said it is unfortunate that as a result of the robbery and the destruction of municipal infrastructure, the sewage water spills over into the river.
OFM News will follow up with the municipality to ascertain the extent of the damage caused by this robbery.
