Issues of potholes and neglected road infrastructure will become a thing of the past in the embattled Mangaung Metro Municipality.

This after the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, announced that R900 million will be injected into Mangaung to start working on road infrastructure projects.

Mbalula lambasted Mangaung officials for only fixing potholes and cleaning streets because of President Cyril Ramaphosa's presence in the Metro this weekend. Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) spokesperson, Themba Zweni, told OFM News that metro residents have been suffering for a long time due to the provincial government that has been reluctant to serve the community.

He said issues of service delivery were only given attention to due to the Presidential Imbizo that was held at the Dr Petrus Molemela Sport Centre in Bloemfontein.

Meanwhile, Mbalula promised to return to Mangaung after the upcoming Easter holidays to sort out issues of road infrastructure, and called on Sanral to work together with government to complete road infrastructure projects.

He also said that he will be dealing with the issue of the Integrated Public Transport Network, or Hauweng project, which was marred by complaints from community members of Mangaung. Mbalula said that heads will roll in the Metro Municipality as he has signed a forensic audit against Mangaung officials.

He promised to bring to book corrupt officials who used money of residents for their own benefit.
