A school at Bethlehem in the Free State has scooped the national title of having the best nutrition programme of all schools in the country.
The Free State Department of Education MEC Tate Makgoe has applauded the Thabang Primary School after being awarded as the best performer in the 2021/22 National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP).
In the process, the school won a fully equipped industrial kitchen worth R450 000.
The Programme Awards were hosted by the Department of Basic Education's (DBE) Deputy Minister, Reginah Mhaule, at the launch of the NSNP food safety video series in Pretoria on Tuesday. In a statement issued by the Free State Education Department, Makgoe stated that the school is the epitome of excellence after it outshined other schools, following the DBE’s visit to evaluate the nine best schools representing their provinces.
Acording to Makgoe, the criteria that was used to evaluate schools’ effectiveness in providing nutrition education, innovation, creativity, learner engagement, adherence to food safety, and Covid-19 protocols, amongst others.
He congratulated the Thabang Primary School principal, school governing body, teachers, learners, food handlers, partners and the school's community who implemented the best National School Nutrition Programme in the country.
