Bloemfontein, also famous as the City of Roses, will tomorrow see more than 1000 participants in the Asics Kloppers Marathon.
The organiser of the marathon, Wayne Beelders, told OFM News they are expecting participants from all over Southern Africa, also from Lesotho, to join the Kloppers’ 31st Marathon. To make the marathon more fun they have invented the 5km run and invited pupils from different schools. Beelders explains no roads will be closed for the marathon in the city, however, there will be traffic officials ensuring everybody's safety.
"There is a 42km race that starts at 06:00, the 21km will begin at 06:15, the 10km at 06:30, and the 5km will start at 06:45. There will be prizes for the first 5 runners of each race distance; starting at R1000 for 1st place and R250 for 5th place."
The streets that the runners will be using are Horak Street, St George Street, President Brand Street, Nelson Mandela Drive, Jac van Rhyn Street, Koos van der Walt Street, De Bruyn Street, Van Wyk Street, Gardenia Street, Alwyn Avenue, Du Plooy Crescent, Benade Street, Stals Road, President Paul Kruger Street, Jock Meiring Street, Kings Way, and Zola Budd Street.
