Tswelopele mayor seeks assistance from national government | News Article

The Mayor of the Bultfontein-based Tswelopele Local Municipality in the Free State has sought assistance from national government regarding sanitation issues in the area.

Phukuntsi Kenalemang urged the visiting Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Maggy Sotyu, to intervene and provide assistance.

Despite sanitation not being her competency, Kenalemang further continued to implore Sotyu for helping, saying the situation now and then gets worse when it rained. She says the floods around the area put the lives of people at risk.

Sotyu was visiting Summerville Primary Farm School outside Bultfontein to hand over donations to 100 school pupils.

Her visit to different schools across the country form part of a request by president Cyril Ramaphosa to address the challenges identified.

On Friday Sotyu and other ministers handed out 100 eco-furniture desks, school shoes, bags, stationery, sanitary towels, colour-coded dustbins, and garden tools.
