Transport minister expected to launch road safety campaign in Bfn | News Article

The Festive Season Road Safety Awareness Campaign is set to kick off next week Monday 13 December 2021.

The campaign will be launched at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. In a statement, the Road Traffic Management Corporation says the event is expected to be launched by the Department of Transport's Minister Fikile Mbalula.

The Festive Season Road Safety Awareness Campaign is a government programme that aims to prioritise and promote safer road usage during the high peak season on South African roads.

The objective of the campaign is to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, but also to prevent negligent and reckless driving which could result in road accidents.

The Road Traffic Mmanagement Corporation says the festive season in South Africa is associated with industry closure, increases in traffic volumes, and increased road deaths. The large proportion of victims are usually pedestrians, passengers due to the lack of use of safety belts, and jaywalking by pedestrians.
