NC former health officials set for 2022 trial─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:13 Wed, 10 Nov 2021
Two former Northern Cape Health accounting officers, accused of fraud and contravening the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), are set to go on pre-trial in 2022.
The National Prosecution Authority's (NPA) regional spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, says the trial was previously scheduled for 14 September 2021 but had to be postponed because the defence had indicated that it was not ready for trial.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Mosimanegape Gaborone, and the former Head of the Department (HOD), Dion Theys, are alleged to have approved payments to two service providers amounting to over R43 million without following proper and adequate PFMA processes. The duo is out on R20 000 bail and they are set to re-appear at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court (SCC) on 24 January 2022 for pre-trial consultations.
The accused are expected to be back in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court (SCCC) on 24 January 2022 for pre-trial consultations. OFM News previously reported that the two were arrested by the Hawks for alleged Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment procurement fraud in September 2021.
