The Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu has vowed to address issues of pollution regarding the Vaal River.
He has further requested stakeholders to join hands with government in finding common solutions to the problem.
Mchunu’s statement follows his visit to the Waste Water Treatment Plant at the Sol Plaatje Municipality in the Northern Cape.
Deputy President David Mabuza, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Water and Sanitation, together with Mchunu, assessed the extent of pollution in the Vaal River System.
Mabuza and Mchunu were accompanied by Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul, MECs, and local leadership of both Phokwane and the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
Officials and various stakeholders, including business and community representatives, among others, were given an opportunity to engage with Mabuza and Mchunu.
It’s reported that the Deputy President acknowledged there is a lot of work that needs to be done, which can only be achieved by working together.
Meanwhile Mchunu is expected to do a follow-up visit to Sol Plaatje.
