The Mangaung Metro Municipality has notified residents of water supply interruptions in the south of Bloemfontein, Dewetsdorp and Wepener in the Free State.
Municipal spokesperson Qondile Khedama says this is due to an extreme flow rate at Welbedacht Dam. This creates turbulence, resulting in sand being pushed into the system and applying pressure on pumps.
Khedama says water tankers will be provided in all affected areas, and water carts will be supplied to Dewetsdorp and Wepener.
Restoration is estimated to take place in 36 hours - based on natural conditions.
DA Ward Councillor in Mangaung Metro and spokesperson for water, Rossouw Botes, says they hope that the situation will be back to normal during the day.
Areas affected by water supply interruptions in Bloemfontein include Pellissier, Lourier Park, Fauna, Universitas Ridge, Bainsvlei, Langenhovenpark, and Spitskop N1 Engen Garage.
Bloem Water teams are working on the ground to ensure the issue is resolved, adds Khedama. Mangaung Metro apologises for the inconvenience this may cause.
