A female professional race car driver says she wants to create hope in South Africa through motorsports racing.
Sandra Labuschagne-Jonck, who is the only female participant in the South African National Cross Country Series (SACCS), says she has partnered with Agri SA to raise funds to help disadvantaged communities that have been hit hard by poverty during the national coronavirus lockdown. SACCS is hosting the fourth round of the TOTAL AGRI 400 motorsport competition.
She says she will be showcasing her race car in one of the biggest maize producing areas in the Free State, namely Bothaville, on Thursday. This comes before the actual race which will be at NAMPO Park in the same area on Friday and Saturday.
Labuschagne-Jonck says people in the area are welcome to come see her car and meet and chat with her team, get to know them, and talk about the project on how they can get involved, as it will be helping the needy communities in the country.
She says unfortunately, during the day of racing, spectators will not be allowed in the park due to Covid-19 regulations. However, they can be part of the action outside on the tracks, roads, and farms in the area. She challenges people to donate R2 per completed kilometer or R800 per completed event. According to her, these donations will make a huge difference to people who are struggling.
