Nzimande gives update on return of students─── LEATILE LEIEE 15:16 Wed, 26 Aug 2020
Three groups of students have been instructed to return to their respective undergraduate programmes under lockdown level 2.
This is according to Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, who briefed the media on the readiness of universities and colleges. Nzimande says that these groups are all students who require laboratory and technical equipment.
The second group will then be students who require practical placements, experiential learning and workplace learning to complete the academic year.
Nzimande also announced that all first year students doing their undergraduate programmes are amongst those that will be going back to their tertiary learning: ‘’All other students will be continued to be supported by remotely learning, teaching and assessment until they can return to campus.
“It is recognised that each institution will determine the implementation of this criteria in terms of their own academic programmes and plans.
“The remaining students will return to campus when the country goes to level 1.’’
Nzimande also says that they have been in frequent talks with institutions on the many challenges that they have faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
