Centlec says Mangaung power outages were due to bad weather | News Article

The electricity supplier Centlec in Bloemfontein has confirmed that some parts of Mangaung were hit by planned and unplanned power outages over the weekend due to recent bad weather in the Free State.

The entity spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, says the recent thunderstorms led to a power loss in some parts of Mangaung in Bloemfontein. He says areas such as Vista Park, Rocklands, and Olivier, amongst others, were affected by planned and unplanned power cuts. The power was, however, restored within a period of 2 to 3 hours. This comes in the wake of a warning issued by SA Weather Services last week, about the severe thunderstorm and localised flooding over the eastern parts of North West, as well as the northern Free State.

Meanwhile, residents of Bothaville near Kgotsong woke up Monday morning without power supply in their area. This as the power utility Eskom in that area lost supply at around 01:30 this morning. According to the provincial spokesperson for the power utility, Stefanie Janse van Rensburg, tests are being conducted on the transformer to determine the cause of the outage. She says an estimated restoration time is still unknown.
