Bloemfontein Water Crisis
#BloemWaterCrisis: Matters to improve by Thursday─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 16:26 Tue, 21 Nov 2017
Water supply to the southern parts of Bloemfontein could be restored by Thursday, if things go according to plan.
The DA’s Rossouw Botes says the burst pipe has now been removed and contractors are busy preparing the ground for the new pipe. Botes says should there be no further disruptions, a new pipe could be installed before the end of the afternoon and water supply to the south could be restored by tomorrow evening or Thursday morning.
Botes says residents should err on the side of caution, because there are no guarantees.
Once water supply is restored it will take a couple of hours to flow to the different parts of the Southern suburbs. He cautions that the announcement is only for the southern suburbs not the north of Bloemfontein. He says the North has not reached its peak of problems because the water issue in the north is only in the beginning stages, “so there is still suburbs with a little bit of water, we know what is the consumption at this stage, what they need and what is available from the reservoir site” says Botes.
This comes after residents in the southern suburbs were left without water since last week Tuesday when BloemWater did planned maintenance work to a pipeline near the Brandkop Reservoir. A leakage in the pipeline occurred and had to be repaired.
