#BloemWaterCrisis: Emergency water supply organised by Mangaung Municipality allegedly ran dry─── JOSCA HUMAN 13:01 Tue, 21 Nov 2017
Emergency water supply organised by the Mangaung Municipality has allegedly run dry. OFM News joined Mangaung residents in a search for water tanks, just to find that most of them are empty.
Langenhovenpark, Pellissier, and Fauna are among the areas where water tanks ran dry.
Community members have also reported that Edenburg and Reddersburg have been without water for the sixth day today. Residents have asked the Municipality to provide water tanks but have not received a response.
Meanwhile, supermarkets, water supply shops and other outlets selling water in Bloemfontein are quickly running out of water as residents descended in their numbers.
OFM News earlier spoke to the Mangaung Metro who notified us that they were in the process of replacing a part of the Welbedacht water pipeline.
The spokesperson for the metro, Qondile Khedama, said technical teams have worked through the night and the part of the pipeline that burst is now being replaced with a steel pipe. Khedama says water tanks will be distributed in the northern suburbs that are now being affected. According to him, people can use the metro’s call center to indicate where water tanks should be distributed.
Meanwhile, a DA councillor and water expert from Bloemfontein, Rossouw Botes, is cautious to say when residents of the city will have water again. Botes says it all depends on how long it takes to replace the damaged part of the Welbedacht water pipeline. He assumes the pipeline will be repaired on Wednesday or Thursday, and that water from the Brandkop Reservoir will not be available immediately. He says the pipeline must first be filled with water.
However, in a visit to Bloemanda, Life Rosepark Hospital in Fichardtpark, as well as the Fourth Raadsaal, OFM News established that these areas do have running water.
