Bloemfontein Water Crisis
VIDEO: #BloemWaterCrisis - entire city most likely without water soon, warns DA Mangaung Caucus─── JOSCA HUMAN 16:18 Mon, 20 Nov 2017
DA councillor and water expert, Rossouw Botes, confirms that there has been another pipe burst in the city of Bloemfontein.
Bloem Water has instructed that no more water be pumped into the Brandkop Reservoir this afternoon. Apparently, the latest burst occurred shortly after repairs to the previous burst were completed.
Botes adds that the reservoirs feeding the northern parts of the city are at this stage dangerously low, and these parts are most likely also going to be without water soon.
He says tap water will dry up by late this afternoon or early tonight. Botes adds that it is impossible to survive with the amount of water that is currently in the reservoir.
This comes after it was earlier announced that water supply has reached the Brandkop Reservoir in Bloemfontein after most residents in the southern parts of the city have been without water since last week.
Botes said he visited the reservoir and confirmed that 1 100 litres of water were pumped into this reservoir per second. However, Bloem Water contacted him this afternoon and said there was another crack in the pipe, which resulted in the pipe bursting. Botes says Bloem Water could not determine how long it will take this time to fix the pipe.
OFM News spoke to Mangaung Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, this morning who said the water situation in the city is being monitored and residents will be updated. He could not be reached for comment since then.
According to the DA’s Mangaung Caucus, as it stands at the moment the entire city will most likely be without water by tonight.
It is unknown at this stage when water supply will be restored.
