Bloemfontein Water Crisis
Water supply restored to some areas in #BloemWaterCrisis─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 12:44 Mon, 20 Nov 2017
Water supply has reached the Brandkop Reservoir in Bloemfontein after most residents in the southern parts of the city have been without water since last week.
Rossouw Botes, a local DA Ward Councillor, who is well-informed when it comes to water issues, says water had reached the Brandkop Reservoir between 08:00 and 09:00 this morning.
He visited the reservoir and confirms 1 100 litres water per second are pumped into this reservoir.
Botes provides regular updates on the water situation in Bloemfontein as he receives first-hand updates from Bloemwater.
According to Botes, most residents in Pellissier and Fauna have water running from their taps for the first time since Bloemwater started with planned maintenance work on the pipeline near the reservoir last week Tuesday. In the process, there was a leakage in the pipeline which had to be fixed. Bloemwater hoped to restore water supply by Thursday and Friday, but on Saturday afternoon a part of the Welbedacht Main Pipeline outside the city burst, leaving residents in the southern parts of the city frustrated.
The burst was repaired by Bloemwater. Last night at about 21:00 Bloemwater started to slowly pump water into the pipe leading to the reservoir. Water supply reached the Brandkop Reservoir this morning.
Meanwhile, water supply to areas in the northern suburbs, including Pentagon Park which had no running water this morning, has also been restored, says Botes.
Low water pressure at most houses in these areas is being experienced. Botes says it is not clear what caused the problem, but the two reservoirs providing water to this part of Bloemfontein have low water levels.
Mangaung Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, told OFM News earlier this morning that the water situation in the city is being monitored and residents will be updated. He could not be reached for comment since then.
