Bloemfontein Water Crisis
Aging infrastructure blamed for Mangaung water outages in #BloemWaterCrisis─── JOSCA HUMAN 09:18 Sun, 19 Nov 2017
Bloemfontein - A lack of proper maintenance of the Mangaung Metro's pipes could be the reason for all the pipe bursts in the city.
This is according to DA councillor, Rossouw Botes, who says water pipes are 47 years old and were made of concrete, which is not available anymore.
Residents in the southern part of Bloemfontein have been without water for some days and it was hoped supply would have been restored by yesterday afternoon. But a pipe leak was reported while technicians were restoring flow after a burst pipe was fixed.
Botes says problems on pipelines now need to be fixed with iron pipes, and it is difficult to link iron with concrete.
“With all the management the last couple of years, and different government institutions, I think a lack of money and a lack of skill may be one of the issues,” says Botes.
Botes adds that 22 water tankers will be made available to affected areas.
“At this stage we are trying to help the people with water tanks as much as possible. We have identified 22 areas without water,” says Botes.
More water tanks have been placed in areas which include:
Spitskop - Fruit & Veg City

Uitsig - Onzerust Primary School
